LAKEPORT >> Beth Aiken played the oboe and Tom Aiken the harpsichord at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 30, the first in a three part Advent Chamber Music series. The couple played music written specifically for oboe and harpsichord by J.S. Bach, Telemann and Gordon Jacob, as well as other works.

Mel Taylor plays the Organ at Dec. 7 concert

At noon on Wednesday, Dec. 7, the Advent Chamber Series continues at St. John’s Episcopal Church with a one hour performance by Mel Taylor who will play selections from the California Wine Suite Opus 40 by Hans Uwe Hielscher as well as Variations on New Britain (Amazing Grace) by David P. Dahl. Admission is free.

My Divas sing on Dec. 14

This a cappella group, comprised of six talented Lake County women, will sing madrigals (parts songs) and intricately interwoven melodies in three- and four-part harmonies. This one hour concert at St. John’s Episcopal Church takes place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and is free to the public.

Joint Program Continues in 2017 at the Soper Reese Theatre

St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Soper Reese Theatre have also joined together to present the Contemporary Chamber Music Series on Sunday afternoons in January, February, March and April of 2017. The four concerts in this series will be held at the Soper Reese Theatre at 275 S. Main St., in Lakeport. All concerts start at 3 p.m. and run about two hours. Tickets are $20 and $15; under 18 years of age are admitted free. A series subscription is available which offers a $10 discount.

On Jan. 22 Barbara D’Augelli, flute and Sergei Bassehes, guitar, perform pieces from modern composers. Luiz Cohelo, clarinet, is the featured artist for the February 19 concert and Tammie Dyer, violin, will join with friends to present a wide range of classics on March 19. The final concert at the Soper Reese Theatre features Trois Bois, a woodwind trio, performing pieces from the 20th century.

The Contemporary Chamber Series is produced by Beth Aiken and Jeff Ives.

St. John’s Episcopal Church is located at 1190 N. Forbes St., in Lakeport and is free to the public. The series is presented by St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Soper Reese Theatre with generous support from Anne Barquist.
