Josh Damiata added 10 points while Jaren Mertle finished with eight and Seth Mix added six as Clear Lake improved to 3-0 on the season.

Consolation championship

After losing to Upper Lake 43-33 in their season opener on Nov. 29, the Kelseyville Knights repaid the debt by beating the Cougars 43-32 in the consolation championship game of the Clear Lake Junior Varsity Tournament for boys on Saturday at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.

Joey Mendonca and Raymond McLeod scored 11 points apiece for the Knights (2-2) while Robert Chavez added seven and Garrett Davidson six.

Davidson’s all-around play sparked the Knights, according to head coach Gus Schillinger.

“He did all the dirty work,” Schillinger said. “His play really galvanized us. He did a great job.”

Another standout for the Knights was Tyler Linnell, who drew the task of guarding one of Upper Lake’s top players, Dylan Armstrong.

“He held him to five points,” Schillinger said.“The last time we played them he scored 23.” Chris Fecht led the Cougars (2-2) with nine points and Hank Nevarez had seven.

Kelseyville’s Mendonca and Davidson were named to the All-Tournament team.

Kelseyville plays South Fork on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Willits Tournament.
