LAKEPORT >> Too many turnovers by Clear Lake gave visiting Kennedy High School too many chances to put the ball in the hoop and the Eagles took advantage by beating the Cardinals 47-39 in non-league varsity girls’ basketball action on Monday night in Lakeport.
“We didn’t shoot all that good and we turned the ball over a lot,” Clear Lake coach Kory Reynolds said. “Those were the things that killed us.”
The game was close throughout as the Eagles led just 35-32 entering the final period. Clear Lake (2-2) couldn’t sustain its offense long enough to make a run at the Eagles (4-1) down the stretch.
“We just didn’t play the way we wanted,” Reynolds.
Kortnie Reynolds led the Cardinals with 11 points and Kiana Richardson added 10.
Clear Lake beat Trinity 43-36 on Saturday in the third-place game of the Colusa Tournament, that after falling 43-30 to Durham in the winner’s semifinals on Friday night. In the win over Trinity, All-Tournament selection Reynolds poured in 22 points, including six 3-pointers.
“Her first four shots were threes and she made them all,” Reynolds said of his daughter’s big night.
All 22 of Reynolds’ points came in the first three quarters.
In the loss to Durham, Reynolds finished with 17 points. No other Clear Lake player had more than three.
