Pearl Harbor survivor Bill Slater, who was on the USS Pennsylvania Dec. 7, 1941, and ‘sweetheart’ Alice Darrow observe Wednesday morning’s Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremonies in Lakeport’s Library Park from the warmth of a vehicle. Darrow’s husband, Dean, served on the USS West Virginia that fateful morning. The couple met in the hospital after he was wounded. She was a nurse at the time.
