LAKE COUNTY >> Adrian Arroyo of Kelseyville High School and Lucas Triplett of Fort Bragg High School are this year’s recipients of $1,000 college scholarships awarded by the Lake-Mendocino branch of the Northern California Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Arroyo and Triplett were selected from a group of scholar-athletes nominated by their coaches based on their athletic ability, academic achievement and leadership abilities, including citizenship and community involvement.
All nominees must be seniors who maintain a B-grade point average. They will be honored along with other branch winners early next year at special awards dinner.
Judges scored all the candidates based on the following criteria: Grade point average (40 percent), athletic ability (40 percent), contributions to the school and community (20 percent).
Candidates are divided into two divisions, backs and linemen. This year’s candidates in the back category were Triplett, the most valuable player on offense on the 2016 All-North Central League I team as well as a first-team selection on defense as a defensive back; Kelseyville quarterback Logan Barrick, an honorable mention on the All-League team and a two-way starter for the Knights; Middletown wide receiver’defensive back Gabe Guzman, an All-League first-team selection on defense; and Ukiah’a Brett Hofstetter. Arroyo was the only lineman nominated for the award.
