CLEARLAKE >> The Clearlake City Council t certified the election results, including the passage of Measure V, which is a road tax measure to improve the local roads in Clearlake. One of the important selling points for the Measure was the requirement for a Citizen’s Oversight Committee.
“The Citizen’s Oversight Committee is a vital component of this Measure,” said Mayor Russ Perdock. “They will work with the Council and City staff to make sure that the money is spent in full compliance with Measure V.”
On Thursday night the council began work to establish the committee.
Each individual council member can choose a representative for the committee and each of the council members has shown an interest in receiving applications from the public. Applications are available on the Measure V page of the city’s website, www.clearlake.ca.us, or at City Hall.
In order to be eligible, a person must be a resident of the city of Clearlake and be able to commit to attending meetings on a monthly basis or more at a time to be decided by the committee. Applications from interested persons are due back to the City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 18.
The City Council will make appointments to the Committee at the Jan. 26 City Council meeting.
A“Measure V represents a significant turning point for the City of Clearlake in our ability to finally create some real improvements to the road infrastructure, as well as to the image of our city,” City Manager Greg Folsom said. “The Citizen’s Oversight Committee is a critical part of the process in order to help ensure transparency and accountability to the taxpayers who entrusted us with this money.”
