The list
First Lutheran Church, Lucerne
Pastor Chris DelCol
On the third Sunday of Advent, we continue with our sermon series on “Family Life” and look at Matthew 1:1-17. The sermon title is, “The List”. This scripture passage appears to be a catalog of ancient names that no one cares about. Seminaries warn pastors that preaching from a list is certain to put people to sleep. Not this week because to those of us who need forgiveness in our families, this list means everything! We get a glimpse of the dysfunction in the lineage of Jesus which is something most families can relate to. Only Jesus was perfect, the rest of us … well, the best thing to do is come and listen to the good and bad in the lineage of our Savior and what it means to our “Family Life”. We hope to see you Sunday.

The Song of Mary Magnificat: Luke 1:46-55
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior….”
This is the beginning of one of the most beautiful passages in the Bible, and is one of the lessons for Sunday at Galilee (at 10 a.m.). It is a soaring, pealing song of praise, without any personal agenda or hidden purpose. It is a song we can all sing every morning when we rise to meet the day.
In the Gospel lesson, John the Baptist’s followers ask Jesus, “Are you the one we have been waiting for, or shall we continue waiting?” Notice that they are willing to wait as long as it takes to greet the Messiah. There is no “oh well, we give up” here. It’s a statement of faith, faith that doesn’t have an expiration date attached to it.
Diane Andre and Joleen Jessen will contribute special music this week.
Tuesday nights through December, our Bible Study meets at 6:00 pm, followed by a meditative midweek service from 7:15-8:00.
So much to learn, so little time! We invite all who seek to deepen their spiritual lives to join us this week as we proclaim the third week of Advent, the time of preparation and waiting for the birth of the Christ. Galilee Lutheran is located at 8860 Soda Bay Road in the Rivieras. You can find us online at www.galileekelseyville.org and on Facebook.
The meaning of truth
Clear Lake Baptist Church, Lakeport.
Pastor Ray Smith
Is there such thing as absolute truth? Can truth be known? Can different people have different view of truth? How can we know if something is true? Many people believe that truth is based on the person’s perspective. In other words, two conflicting “truths” can both be true depending on the person’s perspective. Is this a valid position? How can two conflicting views both be true? Come on Sunday for answers. Join us this Sunday at 10:45 a.m. to learn more. Come at 9:15 a.m. for stimulating Bible studies for all ages. We have midweek services so check out the schedule online or call the church office (707) 263-3256. Listen to sermons online (but there is no substitute for live interaction and engagement.) Our Tuesday night AWANA kids club is for ages 4 years old to 6th grade. Visit our website for other services and times; www.clearlakebaptistchurch.org. This Sunday, December 11, at 6 p.m. is our Christmas program. Come and enjoy drama and music.
