UPPER LAKE >> Natalie Karlsson climbed above 1,300 points for her career on Monday night as the Upper Lake Cougars routed the Esparto Trojans 67-14 in non-league varsity girls basketball action at Upper Lake.

Karlsson, a four-year varsity veteran, scored 26 points to go along with nine assists as Upper Lake improved to 5-3 on the season. She now has 1,302 points, moving her up to ninth on Lake County’s list of all-time leaders. With the Cougars in action again tonight against Willits, Karlsson has a good shot at moving past the No. 8 all-time scorer, Ashlyn Welton (1,314 points) of Middletown High School.

“Her scoring comes naturally,” Upper Lake coach Mike Smith said. “It’s not something she’s focused on. Tonight she was upset she didn’t get that 10th assist.”

Liliana Roman-Ibey had 13 points for the Cougars while Kejhana Taylor added six points, six rebounds and three steals. Nastasia Cullen’s six steals led the team.

Upper Lake won the junior varsity game 30-4 behind 12 points from Alana Sanchez, eight from Rebecca Harper and six from Cheyanne Obedoza.
