Upper Lake High School sophomore Junior Fernandez wasn’t messing around on Saturday during the Green and Gold Tournament at San Marin High School in Novato. He scored a quick 38-second pin in his first match, battled to a 7-4 victory in the 132-pound semifinals, then took apart No. 1 seed Tai White of Acalanes High School of Lafayette with a 16-0 technical fall in the championship match. White is the same wrestler who beat Fernandez 9-7 in the third-place match of the 2016 North Coast Section Championships. That loss prevented Fernandez from moving on to the CIF State Championships. Along with winning the 132-pound division at Novato, Fernandez was named the tournament’s outstanding lightweight.
