MARYSVILLE >> Once the Lower Lake defense took away Marysville’s top weapon, the game was over. And that’s exactly what happened in the second half as the visiting Trojans prevailed 62-39 in non-league varsity girls basketball action on Friday night in Marysville.
“They have one really, really dominant player,” Lower Lake coach Dave Milano said of the Marysville club. “We made some adjustments in the second to take her away. They had a tough time functioning after that.”
Man-to-man pressure and occasional double teams did the trick, according to Milano.
Ahead 30-26 at halftime, Lower Lake allowed just 13 second-half points.
Aleia Milano’s 20 points paced the Trojans, now 4-5 on the season. Samantha Caires added 14 and Shayna Pike had six.
While happy with the win, Milano said the Trojans are far from playing their best ball of the season.
“I still don’t feel like we’re playing our best game,” he said. “We did play better tonight than we have been in our last couple of games. I felt like we got back to basics and cleaned up some of the things that we needed to.”
Lower Lake returns to action on Thursday in Upper Lake.
