ARCATA >> The team that eliminated Kelseyville from the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs last season in a 56-52 nailbiter had no such trouble defeating the Knights on Tuesday afternoon in a non-league varsity boys basketball game at Arcata.

“You could feel it, we didn’t have good energy. You could see it during warmups,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said of a 66-38 blowout loss to the Arcata Tigers.

“I thought they had a better team last time we played and I certainly think we’re capable of being better than we were a year ago,” Conrad said. “I don’t think they are 30 points better than we are, but they were today.”

A 19-4 first quarter put the Knights (8-3) in a hole they couldn’t recover from.

“In the second half I thought we played with them for a little bit,” Conrad said. “Arcata’s a pretty good team.”

The Tigers improved to 7-3.

Kyle Ellis scored 19 points to lead the Knights and had their only two 3-pointers. Dwayne Yigginis finished with six points.

Kelseyville returns to action Dec. 29 against El Molino in Forestville.
