BRENTWOOD >> Blake Fredrickson of Lower Lake High School turned in a commendable performance while finishing second in the 106-pound division on Friday during the annual Lou Bronzan Invitational at Liberty High School in Brentwood.

Also for the Trojans, heavyweight Michael Jamison won his first three matches to reach the semifinals but lost back-to-back decisions in his final two matches.

Fredrickson, the second seed at 106 pounds, won four straight matches, the first three by pin, to reach the finals against No. 1 seed Evan Santos of American High School of Fremont. Santos prevailed with a pin 50 seconds into the second round of their match.

Making his first appearance in the tournament, the Lower Lake sophomore, just one season removed from breaking Lower Lake’s freshman record for most wins (33), won each of his first two matches on Thursday with first-round pins. He had to work a bit longer in the quarterfinals, pinning Nolan Marchetti of Freedom High School 30 seconds into the second round. Fredrickson then beat Eli Blackwell of Tracy, who entered the tournament with a 14-1 record, 11-4 in the semifinals.

Fredrickson finished fifth at 106 pounds in the North Coast Section Championships as a freshman. If he can place third or higher this season, he’ll qualify for the CIF State Championships.

Jamison needed only 25 seconds to pin his first opponent. He registered an 8-1 decision in his second-round match before beating Andy DeLira of Clayton Valley High School 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

Matched against Genaro Estrada of American High School in the semifinals, Jamison dropped a 6-3 decision, knocking him into the consolation semifinals where he later lost 4-2 to James Hyatt of Durham High School.

DeLira pinned Hyatt in the third-place match.

Lower Lake’s varsity boys return to action Jan. 6-7 in the Dennis Jensen Invitational at Middletown and the Mat Classic in Livermore.
