UPPER LAKE >> A vehicle pursuit that began near Willits turned into a search for two potentially armed subjects who fled on foot towards Mendicino County from the Old Lake County Road intersection with Highway 20 near Upper Lake.
The pair remain at large. The search was turned over to law enforcement agencies in Mendocino County.
Authorities said the subjects were male and female, the male had long hair, a red jacket, and a dark shirt. The woman wore an all-black outfit. Law enforcement reported that at least one carried a handgun.
As a preemptive measure, local Upper Lake schools entered lockdown mode until roughly 11 a.m. By this time, local California Highway Patrol and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office officially ended the search with neither subject found.
Mendicino County CHP and the Ukiah Police Dept. are currently still searching for the subjects or any information regarding them.
The LCSO said if citizens see subjects matching this description, they should steer clear and call 911 immediately.
