FORT BRAGG >> Abby Aden scored nearly half of Middletown’s points as the Mustangs beat the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 51-45 in North Central League I varsity girls basketball action Tuesday night at Fort Bragg.

Aden finished with 25 points as the Mustangs improved to 2-3 in the league standings and 5-12 overall. Makenzi Smith (11 points) and Kassi Agapoff (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Mustangs, who have won two straight in league play.

“The ball movement was pretty good tonight,” Middletown coach Anthony Bazzano said. “We had a pretty solid four quarters on offense but our defense wasn’t very good and we need to hit the glass better. The last two weeks we’ve been outstanding on defense and on the glass, but not tonight.”

Middletown led 21-15 at halftime and 34-29 entering the fourth quarter.

Smith had two of the Mustangs’ four 3-pointers. Aden and Agapoff had the others.

The Mustangs are home Friday to play Kelseyville (4-1, 15-2).

“We’ve got to get back after it,” Bazzano said. “We’ll need to play better defense against them.”

Kelseyville and Middletown shared the league championship a year ago. The Knights are currently a half-game behind Lower Lake (4-0) in this year’s league race.
