With all the recent rains and local flooding in Lake County, a number of local residents are concerned about polluted water flowing into Clear Lake from auto wrecking yards and similar businesses.
According to Carolyn Ruttan of the Lake County Water Resources Department, all auto dismantling businesses are required to file a Storm Water Pollution Plan with the California Water Resources Board. Ruttan said that the state closely monitors these business to ensure that they don’t pollute local streams and lakes.
She added that these businesses are inspected on a routine basis.
While there are currently no reports from state officials of flooding at yards, downpours such as Lake County experienced last week can cause both flooding and runoff into creeks.
