LAKEPORT >>After another year that offered plenty of opportunity for heriocs and giving, opportunity and achievement, residents have settled on 59 nominees for the Stars of Lake County title.

The nominees represent almost every community in Lake County. Nominations fall into 20 different categories honoring small and large businesses, youth advocates, students, ideas and heroes — all the way up to the Marla Ruzicka Humanitarian of the Year award.

This is the 19th edition of the annual community awards program. To date the Stars of Lake County has awarded 362 Star Awards from over 1800 nominations.

The list of nominees includes some well recognized names, along with those who often work behind the scenes: Rev. Shannon Kimbell-Auth, Middletown doctor Laura Daly, winegrape grower and winemaker David Rosenthal, Record-Bee outdoors columnist Terry Knight, Hilltop Recovery Services, Soap Shack Baby, Lake County Tribal Health and so on.

Star recipients will be determined on Jan. 26 at a meeting of the Stars Selection Committee. The committee reviews every nomination prior to conducting a secret ballot vote.

The Selection Committee is comprised of Sue Dodd, Brock Falkenberg, Hedy Montoya, Yvette Sloan, John Tomkins and Sandy Tucker.

The 19th Annual Stars of Lake County Community Awards program takes place on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Soper Reese Theater in Lakeport. The Reception begins at 5 p.m. with the awards ceremony starting at 6:15.

David Neft, who is a Star Recipient and who has provided music for Stars since its inception, will play during the Reception.

Tickets for Stars are $20/person which includes the appetizers during the reception. Tickets are available through the Lake County Chamber of Commerce at 875 Lakeport Blvd. at Vista Point or by calling with credit card information to (707) 263-5092.
