LOWER LAKE >> Despite a season-best 37 points by Cloverdale guard Camryn Figueroa, the Lower Lake Trojans beat the Eagles 66-61 on Friday night in Lower Lake to remain undefeated atop the North Central League I varsity girls basketball standings at 6-0.

Lower Lake, 13-5 on the season, has now won 10 straight and the Trojans can close out a perfect first half to their league schedule with a win Tuesday night in Lakeport against the Clear Lake Cardinals.

“It was an amazing performance by her,” Lower Lake coach Dave Milano said of Figueroa, who connected on five 3-pointers and hit shot after shot for the Eagles as they rallied to within three points of the Trojans in the final seconds.

“She was unreal, especially down the stretch and hit all their clutch shots,” Milano said of Figueroa.

Aleia Milano (22 points) buried a big 3-pointer for the Trojans to give them a six-point lead with 20 seconds left. Vanessa Hughes (12 points) sealed the victory by sinking both ends of a one-and-one with 4.2 seconds left.

Lower Lake had four players scored in double figures. Besides Milano and Hughes, Claire Alderson finished with 13 points and Katelyn Farrell added 11.

“It was a heck of a game,” Milano said.

Tehya Bird had 16 points for the Eagles (3-3), who had a three-game league winning streak snapped.

Cloverdale led 14-12 after one quarter but it was Lower Lake on top 33-26 at halftime.

The Eagles edged Lower Lake in the junior varsity game 38-37. Samantha Hughes led the Trojans with 10 points while Heather Felder and Alicia Cook-Jones each had six.
