CLEARLAKE >> A Clearlake family of five won the grand prize for completing the Hero Project’s Eat Together and Nutrition challenge in November and December.

The grand prize consisted of the 5 Blade Spiralizer for making veggie spaghetti and cutting vegetables into unusual shapes, the Zoodles Spiralizer Cookbook, a cooking journal, books and tips on healthy eating for kids and all the ingredients to prepare one of the healthy meals from the cookbook.

Jessica Chrisp told staff that her family sits down at the table regularly to share meals. They turn the television off and use that time to talk with their three children, twins Matthew and Zoe aged 5, and baby Hazel who is 18 months.

Chrisp said she slowly introduces new foods for her children to try and involves them in food preparation. Daughter Zoe enjoys cooking and likes to help mom in the kitchen, while son Matthew loves to explore and has questions about everything. Baby Hazel, Chrisp says, will eat anything.

The Hero Project is a program of the Lake County Office of Education that supports parents of young children, 0-8, by presenting parents with activities and parenting tips to improve parent-child relationships and to increase early childhood development. The program is free and accessed virtually through its website lakecountyheroproject.com, through Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, and through the Hero Project app, which can be downloaded onto mobile devices from iTunes and GooglePlay.
