MIDDLETOWN >> The Middletown Mustangs used a 27-4 second quarter to take all of the life out of the Willits Wolverines in a North Central League I varsity boys basketball game on Tuesday in Middletown.

Thomas Cook led the way with 14 points and teammates Beckett Hoage and Trey O’Neill added 10 points apiece as the Mustangs routed the Wolverines 62-20, improving their league record to 3-4 at the midway point of the NCL I race.

“It was a good team win,” Middletown coach G.J. Rockwell said. “Our defense really stepped up.”

Willits scored no more than eight points in any one quarter as Middletown built a 39-10 halftime lead and a 54-12 advantage through three quarters.

Hoage finished with a double-double as he pulled down 10 rebounds.

Rockwell said the Mustangs also received solid play off the bench from Justin McDowell, who scored eight points, and Jeff Morris, who added six more.

Middletown opens the second half of its league schedule on Tuesday night in Lower Lake against the 3-4 Trojans.
