LAKE COUNTY – Three Lake County basketball players are about to join the 1,000-point club.

Alma Perez, a Kelseyville High School senior playing her third full year of varsity basketball, finds herself just 27 points away as the Knights host the Fort Bragg Timberwolves tonight to open the second half of their North Central League I schedule.

Perez enters the Fort Bragg game with 973 points. If she doesn’t reach the career milestone on Friday, she’ll likely do it on Tuesday when the Knights, who are atop the league standings at 6-1 and are 17-2 overall, visit Cloverdale.

Two other county players, both juniors from Lower Lake High School, are closing in on the 1,000-point mark as well and could reach the milestone on the same day or at least the same week. Hokulani Wickard and Aleia Milano, both varsity starters since day one of their high school careers, have 950 and 941 points, respectively, going into action tonight against Middletown – the boys are hosting the Mustangs while the girls hit the road.

While it’s highly unlikely they’ll reach 1,000 points on Friday, both could do it sometime next week. The Lower Lake boys are home against St. Helena on Tuesday and at Fort Bragg on Feb. 2. The girls are at St. Helena Tuesday and home against Fort Bragg Feb. 2.

Perez, Wickard and Milano will become the 44th, 45th and 46th players in the history of Lake County basketball to reach 1,000 career points.

The active Lake County career scoring leader is Upper Lake High School senior guard Natalie Karlsson with 1,606 points. The all-time career scoring leader is Upper Lake’s Laura Wilder (1,897 points).

The all-time boys leader is Scott Conrad (1,717 points), who is the athletic director and varsity boys basketball coach at Kelseyville High School.

Perez, Wickard and Milano will be presented with 1,000-point pins courtesy of the Lake County Record-Bee once they reach the milestone.
