KELSEYVILLE >> The Lower Lake Trojans are halfway to a Coastal Mountain Conference three-peat in wrestling.
Lower Lake beat Kelseyville 57-21 and Fort Bragg 18-10 on Wednesday during a conference tri-meet at Kelseyville High School. The Trojans, now 4-0 in the CMC standings, face a critical test next Wednesday at home against Clear Lake and the Willits Wolverines, Lower Lake’s chief competition in the conference race.
Fort Bragg, a CMC contender in past seasons, sent only two wrestlers to the mat against Lower Lake and won the only two contested weight divisions. Carlos Avelar fell 13-4 at 154 pounds and Jacob Billings lost by first-round pin at 162 pounds. All 18 of Lower Lake’s points came on forfeit wins.
There were eight contested matches between Kelseyville and Lower Lake and the Trojans won five . Blake Fredrickson scored a first-round pin at 115 pounds, Lily Wetmore beat Bailey Huggins 5-4 in one of the night’s best matches, Kyle Lynn won by second-round pin at 140 pounds, Peerless Brooke scored a second-round pin at 197 pounds, and heavyweight Michael Jamison won by first-round pin.
Kelseyville picked up victories at 147 pounds where Alex Garcia pinned Adam De Leon in the second round, at 172 pounds where Bryan Carillo pinned Jude Boehn in the first round, and at 108 pounds where Kylie Marlin beat Krystal Lockwood 13-7.
Lower Lake’s junior varsity and girls wrestlers compete at the Willits JV Tournament on Saturday. The Trojans are also sending four of their varsity boys to the MidCals at Gilroy.
