LAKEPORT >> Lawrence Clayton Jelks was located and arrested by the Clearlake Police Department on Wednesday evening.
Jelks, 69, had failed to register as a sex offender and could not be located by authorities at his last known address in Clearlake Oaks. On Tuesday afternoon the Lake County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Jelks.
Law enforcement officials received a number of tips from the public. At approximately 6 p.m. police in Clearlake took him into custody.
“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is very appreciative of the Clearlake Police Department for locating and arresting Jelks and for all of the information received by the public, concerning Jelks’ location,” said LCSO Lt. Steve Brooks in a prepared statement.
He was transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and booked on the arrest warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.
His bail is currently set at $35,000.
