LOWER LAKE — Aleia Milano scored her 1,000th career point in the second quarter, hitting a long 3-pointer, and the Lower Lake Trojans maintained their grasp on a share of the North Central League I lead with a 83-39 victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Thursday night in Lower Lake.

Milano, a junior guard, needed 14 points entering play to reach the milestone. She had 11 points with 1:25 remaining in the second quarter when she converted one of her five 3-pointers on the night.

“As a dad I’m proud of her,” said Lower Lake head coach Dave Milano. “As a coach I try to keep perspective and look at the big picture, which is the team.”

Milano scored her 1,000th point on the same night that fellow Lower Lake junior Hokulani Wickard collected his 1,000th point in a 75-47 loss at Fort Bragg (see related story).

The Trojans’ win keeps them tied with Clear Lake atop the league standings, both teams at 9-1 with four games remaining. Lower Lake is home Saturday to play Kelseyville (8-2).

Milano finished with 25 points while Vanessa Hughes added 19. After Milano scored her 1,000th point, Lower Lake called a timeout so that she could receive an autographed ball from her teammates. She also had a photo taken with teammates before play resumed.

The Trojans dominated from the opening tip and led 20-7 after one quarter, 46-25 at halftime and 69-32 through three quarters. The game ended with a running clock.

Lower Lake is 16-6 overall.

Junior varsity action Saturday between Kelseyville and Lower Lake tips off at 2:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
