KELSEYVILLE — A great start was all the Kelseyville Knights needed to take care of business on Thursday night against the Willits Wolverines, 76-35, in a North Central League I varsity boys basketball game at Kelseyville.

The Knights improved to a league-best 9-1 after outscoring the Wolverines 29-7 in the first quarter.

“I don’t think anybody played equal to a half,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said of the blowout victory.

Kelseyville emptied its bench early on against the winless Wolverines (0-10) and 10 of the 11 Knights who suited up for the game scored, led by Jon Vanderwall’s season-best 14 points.

“We were able to get some well-deserved time for some kids who deserve more playing time,” Conrad said. “We have some pretty talented kids on our second unit.”

During Kelseyville’s fast start in the first quarter, Trey Conrad scored 13 of his 16 points and Kyle Ellis had all nine of his points. If Ellis had scored one more he would have finished with a rare triple-double as he also had 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Vermontay Luia was the only Knight who didn’t score but he did dish out five assists that didn’t go unnoticed by Conrad.

“He made some great passes,” Conrad said.

Kelseyville, now 18-4 overall, hosts Lower Lake on Saturday. Junior varsity action tips off at 6 p.m.
