KELSEYVILLE — Bouncing back from a 53-42 loss at Cloverdale on Tuesday, the Kelseyville Knights parlayed a 22-point first quarter into a 65-25 victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in North Central League I varsity girls basketball action on Thursday at Kelseyville.

“We came out pretty fast, really looking for shots,” Kelseyville coach Jim Hale said. “We were being more aggressive on offense. We had a good talk after the Cloverdale game.”

Kelseyville led 22-9 after the opening period and 36-15 at halftime.

“Our press was really good, tough early before we pulled it off at halftime,” Hale said.

The victory keeps the Knights (8-2 league, 19-3 overall) a game behind Clear Lake and Lower Lake, both 9-1, in the league standings. Kelseyville plays at Lower Lake on Saturday (2:30 p.m. junior varsity start) in a game critical to both teams’ title chances.

“We’re focused,” Hale said of the weekend matchup.

Alma Perez and Payton Conrad scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the Knights. Grace Davidson added eight points, eight rebounds and five assists while Taylor Hale also had eight points, including two of the Knights’ five 3-pointers. In fact, Hale helped jump-start Kelseyville’s quick start by scoring six of the Knights’ first eight points. Like Davidson, Hale also pulled down eight rebounds.

Willits fell to 5-5 in the league standings.
