WILLITS — On a Tuesday night when most of the Lower Lake Trojans were struggling to hit shots from the field, junior guard Aleia Milano was one of the exceptions; she couldn’t miss.
Milano finished with 35 points as the Lower Lake Trojans regained a share of the North Central League I varsity girls basketball lead with a 63-50 win against the host Willits Wolverines.
Lower Lake’s victory combined with Kelseyville’s 41-39 home win over the Clear Lake Cardinals leaves all three teams tied at 10-2 with two games remaining. Lower Lake has the toughest remaining schedule by far with a road game Friday in Cloverdale (7-4) and a home game Feb. 14 against Clear Lake.
“We know what is ahead of us,” Lower Lake coach Dave Milano said. “We still control our own destiny. We need to play hard the rest of the way.”
Lower Lake gradually pulled away from Willits. It was 18-13 after one quarter, 26-22 at halftime and 46-37 through three quarters.
Jolean Scarborough added 13 points in the win.
Milano’s big night shooting the ball included five 3-pointers.
