LAKE COUNTY >> Rainy conditions might dampen dry conditions, but local fire departments have seen a recent increase in car accidents.
“Conditions are really slick,” said Northshore Fire Protection District Chief Jay Beristianos. He reported that his department has responded to two vehicle accidents in the last two days, both of which occurred in the dark, in the rain.
He said there’s been an increase county wide, and most of the collisions have been the result of poor driving conditions.
According to reports, other accidents happened around the county, such as a roll-over near Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, an accident on Spruce Grove and Highway 29 and a collision by Lakeshore Boulevard and Highway 53.
There was also a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident near Lakeview and Highway 20, but authorities said that upon arrival, that was not the case.
“We’ve only responded to a couple,” Beristianos said, “but it appears that road conditions were the cause.”
Lake County experienced a window of dry weather last week, but another storm system from the Pacific promises more to come. Roads will likely flood as they have in the past month, further testing Lake County infrastructure.
