UKIAH >> Middletown High School wrestlers nailed down several top finishes on Saturday during the Redwood Empire Classic at Ukiah High School.

Alixe Olson went 2-0 to finish first at 150 pounds and was named the tournament’s outstanding upper weight wrestlers. Teammates Rachel Harvey, 2-1 at 143 pounds, and Kylie Dredge, 2-1 at 137 pounds, finished second. Dredge pinned the No. 4 seed in the quarterfinals and the No. 1 seed in the semifinals before losing to the North Coast Section’s new No. 1-seeded wrestler in the finals.

Also for the Mustangs, Angela Egger placed fourth with a 2-2 record at 101 pounds.

In the varsity boys bracket, Cameron Ketchum went 4-1 to finish third at 220 pounds.

In the junior varsity boys bracket, 182-pounder James Hernandez and 160-pounder Jerard Pyzer both went 3-0 to win their weight classes. Evan Dodd was second at 152 pounds and Joziah Pyzer came in third at 106 pounds.

Middletown’s girls travel to the North Coast Section championships on Friday and Saturday in Albany. The top three finishers in each weight class advance to the CIF State Championships later this month in Visalia.

Olson is the No. 1 seed at 150 pounds and won’t wrestle until Saturday’s quartefinals. Dredge is the No. 5 seed at 137 pounds and will wrestle at least one match Friday in the section’s most competitive weight class. Harvey is seeded No. 5 at 143 pounds and will wrestle on Friday against an opponent she’s already beaten this season.

Also competing in the sectionals are Egger at 106 pounds, Carissa Forrest at 111 pounds and Arianna Forest at 131 pounds.

Middletown’s boys competed in a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet against St. Helena and Lower Lake on Wednesday night in Lower Lake.
