WINDSOR — Twenty-nine Punisher Youth Wrestling Club members came away with 27 medals, 11 of them for first place, during a Nor Cal TOC Qualifier tournament last weekend at Windsor High School.

More than 500 wrestlers took part in the event, which included brackets for elementary, junior varsity and varsity competitors.

Five of the Punishers’ veteran wrestlers participated in the varsity division. Jonathan Fredrickson wrestled up a weight class and went 3-0 to win the 83-pound division. Bryan Gudino took another first in the 70-76 weight class, including a triple-overtime win over teammate Isaiah Rubio in the semifinals where a two-point takedown in the third overtime was the difference. Gudino then beat another teammate, Austin Fredrickson, in sudden-death overtime in the finals. That match also was decided by a two-point takedown. Fredrickson ended up second with a 2-1 record and Rubio came in third.

Also in the varsity division, Mario Cuellar came in second at 95 pounds with a 2-1 record.

In the JV (middle school) division, Hayden Fowler, Mason Roath, Adam Viramontes and Quentin Vilmenay all came in first. Vilmenay was making his Punishers debut and won all three of his matches.

Also for the Punishers, Isaiah Stone, a first-year wrestler, came in second while Megan Stottsberry finished third with a 3-2 record.

In the elementary bracket, Travis Boyles, Dominick Clark, Jayden Roath, Nick Celli and Angel Martinez all came in first. Boyles, Clark, Roath and Celli are all Punishers veterans while Martinez is a first-year wrestler.

Second-place medals went to Ava Garcia, Matthew Estrada, Xavier Gonzalez-Newman, Taylor Boyles, Arturo Gudino, Carter Rudolph, Ramsey Estrada and Henaise Stone. Gonzalez-Newman won an exciting 20-7 match to secure his medal.

Third-place medals went to Zakai Vilmenay, Octavio Orozco and Kameron Roath.

Three-year-old Daniel Clark scored a pin in an exhibition match against his 2-year-old opponent.

The Punishers head to the annual St. Valentine’s Day Massacre on Sunday in Vacaville where 425 wrestlers from throughout California will be in action.
