UPDATED:

CALPELLA >> The Redwood Valley-Calpella Fire Department and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office responded to Calpella Elementary School around 10 a.m. Tuesday after a bomb threat was made.

According to the Ukiah Unified School District, Principal Tina Burrell reported that staff members were checking voicemail messages and “deciphered a message on a school line threatening to place a bomb ‘under the restaurant.’”

UUSD Superintendent Deb Kubin said the message was left around 11 p.m. Monday on a line for cafeteria staff, so it was interpreted as targeting the school’s cafeteria.

Kubin said the MCSO was called and staff evacuated the children to a safe location until deputies “thoroughly checked the school and cleared it for safety.”
