LAKEPORT >> The Meals on Wheels Thrift Store was broken into Wednesday night at an unknown time and items in their basement were stolen.

Jonathan Crooks, executive director of the store, said luckily nothing was stolen on the first floor and none of the thrift items were missing. The suspect or suspects are still unknown. The theft occurred overnight and the store does not have security cameras Crooks said.

“Maybe it’s time we get those, we have people going through the garbage at night and hanging around the store,” Crooks said.

The person or persons involved broke in through the back door in the basement, which did not have the alarm set, Crook added. Taken were tools and generators.

“The generators are used to pump water up to the first floor and also out of the store area to keep it from flooding or getting water damage,” Crooks said.

Without the generators, the store will not be able to operate if there were a power outage or be able to pump water out. Crook said he will be looking for a new generator to prevent any damage to the location.

Lakeport Police Department investigators reported the property stolen from the store amounts to over $1,000 in value. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
