Winners of their last 15 games, including all 14 of their North Central League I contests, were the Clear Lake Cardinals during a remarkable 2016-17 junior varsity basketball season. Led by head coach Phil Psalmonds, Clear Lake rolled through league play, its closest game a 12-point win over the Middletown Mustangs, one of only two teams to beat Clear Lake during the season — the other was Center High School of Antelope during the Falcons Shootout in late December at Colfax. Middletown’s win over the Cardinals occurred in mid-December during the Record-Bee Hoop Classic in Kelseyville. Clear Lake avenged that 52-47 loss by beating Middletown twice in league play — 67-55 at Middletown and 64-48 at Lakeport. The Cardinals will be sending plenty of talent to Clear Lake’s varsity next season.
