My husband John brought me here from the bay area 28 years ago. Reluctant at first, I quickly warmed up to the county, and then developed a deep appreciation for my new home. People here are friendly and generous in giving their time and resources to help each other.

A perfect example is the Park Study Club; established locally in 1942, through the efforts of its membership assisted local high school students with scholarship grants. Additionally, community services that the club provides assistance to are: Habitat for Humanity, Canine Companions for independence, and Hospice.

The club also supports Sober Grad Night, the Woodland College Culinary program and Meadowood Nursing Home. We, the members, even provide support for the Hugh O’Brien Youth leadership program. This is a three day experience which, in many instances, becomes a truly life altering experience students.

All of us in the Park Study Club are working hard to help our community and, I have to admit, we have fun in doing that. There are fundraisers each year to support our many programs

March 18 we are organizing the annual Dinner/Dance/Wine Tasting Gala at the Highland’s Senior Center, 3245 Bowers Avenue in Clearlake, from 5 to 7 p.m. The music will be by the fabulous LC Diamonds, food cooked by the lovely Woodland Culinary school and the wine will be the best of the best from Lake County Wineries. And that is not all. There will be live and silent auctions and raffles adding to the evening’s excitement as well as a door prize. And the cost? How can you go wrong? Only $35 per person in advance and $40 at the door. The tickets can be obtained at the Bob’s vacuum repair in Clearlake or you can call 707-537-9810

Get dressed up a bit and come eat, drink, bid, boogie and socialize with us. We all need break in our lives…time to have fun, fun, fun.
