COBB >> The Lake County Resource Conservation District recently accepted delivery of 100,000 year-old conifer seedlings suitable for the Cobb Mountain area.

The infant trees were propagated from local seed a year ago through a program funded by #LakeCountyRising and the Lake Area Rotary Clubs Association. Conservationists determined that the trees are now ready for planting. In the meantime they are resting in cold storage at Scully Packing.

Lake County RCD President Charlotte Griswold and Directors Bill Lincoln, Jim Bridges and Victoria Brandon received and sorted the delivery on Friday.

“Victoria had all the signs made, Jim had all the great suggestions, Bill did a masterful job with the forklift in the pouring rain, and I stood around trying to look like I knew what I was doing,” Griswold said. “Really, things went pretty smoothly thanks also to Jim Harvey who was really helpful and a team from Cal Fire who carted the boxes around. Great job.”

Advance purchasers will be picking most of the seedlings up over the next few weeks and getting them into the ground. The RCD does still have a supply of ponderosa pine seedlings for sale.

A box of 250 costs $110 — please contact Victoria Brandon at 707 994 1931 if interested.
