CLEARLAKE >> On Tuesday, Feb. 28 starting at 11:30 a.m. Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College will host their annual Black History Month event. The campus is located at 15880 Dam Road Extension in Clearlake.
Jermaine Gregoire, student chair for the event, has put together a very powerful list of guest speakers for the event. Andre Williams will set the mood with music from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Then Charles Williams, a local pastor, and Rick Mayo, President of the local Lake County NAACP will speak about black history, the past, the present, and its future.
For the event, an essay contest was created. Two questions were offered for students to write about. What is the current state of civil rights in our country? And, what is the most important civil rights event in our history? During the event, the winner’s essay will be read aloud. Associated Students have prepared posters with prominent and influential black men and women who have helped shape and mold our country into a more perfect union. These will be showcased and presented during the event.
