The point

Galilee Lutheran Church

Lay leader: Kristy Weiss

This week, the banners turn white as we celebrate “Transfiguration Sunday.” This is when Jesus takes some of his disciples up on the mountain top and meets up with Moses and Elijah. “His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.”

And, of course, Peter has one of his “duh” moments. Stricken speechless, he manages to stammer out, “Hey, uh, I know. Let’s build a thing here to commemorate the moment.” He does manage to completely miss the point, doesn’t he?

And what exactly is the point? We’ll find out Sunday at 10 a.m. Kristy Weiss leads, and MaryBeth Ingvoldstad supplies the music.

Next week, Mardi Gras begins, or in English, “Fat Tuesday.” This is the last chance to indulge in all kinds of excesses (like pancakes and bacon) before the beginning of Lent. We enter Lent (the 40 days of preparation for Holy Week and Easter) on March 1 at 7 p.m. with our Ash Wednesday service.

Galilee Lutheran (“Being Constantly Re-Formed”) is set gently on the shores of Clear Lake, at 8860 Soda Bay Road in the Kelseyville Rivieras. We invite everyone to join us.
