LAKEPORT >> When popular local author and columnist Gene Paleno learned of the court martial of Civil War general FitzJohn Porter, he became entranced with Porter’s story and set out to tell it in a new book entitled “The Porter Conspiracy.”
Paleno’s book covers a little-known aspect of the Civil War. Porter’s court martial resulted from his actions at the Second Battle of Bull Run, also called Second Manassas. Porter was blamed for the Union’s defeat but was exonerated years later.
Paleno’s book, a novel based on the life of Porter, has recently been published in print.
Paleno will meet the public and present Porter’s story at two free events hosted by the Lake County Library. The Porter Conspiracy will be available to buy at both events.
On March 4 Paleno will visit the Lakeport branch of the Lake County Library from 2 to 4 p.m. The library is located at 1425 N. High Street. Light refreshments will be served. For more information about the event please call 263-8817.
On March 25 Paleno will visit the Middletown Library, 21256 Washington Street, from 1 to 3 p.m.
