HEALDSBURG >> Middletown bolted out to a 8-1 lead and held on to beat Healdsburg 11-7 in non-league softball action on Thursday afternoon in Healdsburg where the victorious Mustangs pounded out 13 hits in their season-opening win.

“They did really good,” Middletown coach Barry Glosser said when asked to rate his team’s first game of the season.

Aly Ferguson sparked the Mustangs (1-0) at the plate by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Winning pitcher Olivia Glosser, Gracie Armstrong, Savannah McLaughlin and Kendall Mildenberger added two hits apiece. McLaughlin and Emilee Grove each had doubles.

Middletown scored at least one run in every inning but the fifth.

Glosser went the distance, striking out five, walking four and hitting one. She allowed 11 hits.

Middletown is home on Saturday, weather permitting, to play American Canyon at noon.
