SANTA ROSA >> Cameron Luis pitched 5 1/3 innings for the victory and Isaac Perez picked up the save as the Middletown High School junior varsity baseball team beat Piner 3-1 in non-league action on Wednesday in Santa Rosa.
Luis carried a shutout into the top of the sixth inning when Piner scored its lone run. Perez relieved and worked out of a jam to keep the score at 3-1.
Middletown staked Luis to a 3-0 lead before he had thrown his first pitch, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. Drake Harbison (1-for-3), Jaden Trueblood (1-for-4) and Aidan Skinner (1-for-3) scored Middletown’s runs.
Luis, who struck out five and walked, led the Mustangs at the plate, going 2-for-4. Perez struck out two in relief.
Middletown, now 2-0 on the season, is off until Wednesday when it hosts St. Vincent at 3:30 p.m.
