From left, Christina Wilson, Adriana Lopez, Junior Fernandez and Dante Bassignani of the Upper Lake High School wrestling team walked off with a heck of a lot of hardware last weekend while competing in the CIF State Championships (girls) in Visalia and the North Coast Section Championships (boys) in Union City. Wilson came away with a third-place medal at 126 pounds while Lopez was sixth at 116 pounds. They are the first two state medalists in Upper Lake girls wrestling history. Not to be outdone, Fernandez was the runner-up in the 126-pound division at the sectional tournament while Bassignani scored an eighth-place medal at 152 pounds. Fernandez takes part in the boys CIF State Championships beginning Friday in Bakersfield. Wilson, Lopez and Bassignani were back on the mats Wednesday afternoon helping Fernandez prepare for his state tournament debut Friday.
