MIDDLETOWN >> With four starters out of action, the Middletown Mustangs couldn’t quite catch St. Vincent despite a strong seventh-inning rally on Wednesday afternoon during non-league softball action in Middletown.

St. Vincent withstood Middletown’s four-run seventh to win 9-7. The Mustangs had the potential tying runs in scoring position when the game ended on a hard grounder to the St. Vincent second baseman.

“Move that ball a couple of feet in either direction and it’s a tie game,” Glosser said.

Middletown (1-1) didn’t make things easy on starting pitcher Olivia Glosser, who struck out three and walked one in going the distance. The Mustangs committed five errors behind Glosser.

Kendall Mildenberger went 2-for-2 with a RBI to lead Middletown at the plate. Glosser, Abby Murphy, Brittney Holt and Devin Clark also had RBIs for the Mustangs.

Middletown returns to action Friday against Santa Rosa High School in Santa Rosa. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
