A new way of looking
Galilee Lutheran Church
Lay leader Kristy Weiss
This Sunday at Galilee, the Gospel reading includes what is arguably the most famous verse of the New Testament. Make a guess and send it to galileekelseyville@gmail.com. There are no prizes for correct guesses, but any winners will be awarded a front-row seat at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The three readings, taken together, point out that Abraham and others in Old Testament days were judged righteous due to their faith, as demonstrated by their willingness to believe God, and not be their adherence to “the law.” Likewise, we are justified by faith, also, and not by the degree of our perfection.
But how do we enter into a life of faith? Only by being “born again” of the Spirit. Think of this as a paradigm shift. As breaking through the veil that separates us from reality. As Huxley’s “doors of perception.” As Plato’s parable of the shadows on the walls of the cave. Any way you look at it, being “born again” implies a whole new way of looking at things.
Just saying it doesn’t make it true, and explaining it is like trying to describe colors to a blind person. Kristy Weiss has her work cut out for her this week.
We will be joined by a representative of the Gideon Society, who will relate some brief stories on their work to supply Bible to the world. All are invited to join us at 8860 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville.
