LAKEPORT >> Clear Lake High School’s tennis team provided new coach Shannon Aloia with a victory in her Cardinals debut, 3-2 over the Willits Wolverines on Wednesday afternoon in Lakeport.
“They looked good,” said Aloia, who coached high school tennis for eight years in Southern California before taking a teaching position at Clear Lake. “We have a lot of good players.”
Clear Lake won two of the three singles matches against the Wolverines while splitting the two doubles matches.
Singles winners were Bobby Lasher, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in second singles, and Simone Celle, 6-0, 6-3 in third singles. Scott Mather fell 6-0, 6-2 in first singles.
In doubles action, Sereno Dominguez and Subhagya Joshi prevailed in a three-set thriller, 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-4 in first doubles. Lexi Burke and Stacy Partridge dropped a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 decision in second doubles.
In exhibition doubles play, Clear Lake’s Ana Olmedo and Chris Lasher fell 7-5, 7-5.
Clear Lake (1-0) returns to action Tuesday at home against Middletown at 4 p.m.
