The Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College is hosting a Native American Empowerment Day on Friday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Native American students grades 7 through 12 and Native American adults are invited to this event at the campus, located at 15880 Dam Road Extension in Clearlake.
The workshop will provide motivation and support for students to enroll and succeed in school.
At this free event, attendees receive morning snacks, lunch, book bags, and educational materials. The day will open with a traditional blessing and prayer. Keynote speaker Clarence Sharlow will give a motivational address titled “Ride with Spirits.” Robert Geary will speak about local historical and contemporary issues.
All participants will join in hands-on workshops regarding traditional practices and the value of higher education. College staff will provide assistance for anyone wishing to enroll in classes for high school equivalency preparation as well as information on career training certificates, associate degrees, or ways to transfer to a four-year university.
