KELSEYVILLE >> Between winding mountain passes and recent bad weather, drivers have enough trouble keeping all four wheels on the pavement. Add inexperienced teen drivers into the mix, and the California Highway Patrol has more than enough to work cut out for themselves.

In an effort to decrease an appalling number of national teenage-related accidents, the CHP will host a special “Start Smart” class to educate young drivers on the dangers of the road.

An official CHP release states a teenager is killed every four hours as a result of a car accident, amounting to 1,870 teens per year in the United States. Additionally, 184,000 teens sustain injuries annually from collisions.

Such numbers have urged the CHP to host this class, where teens will hopefully learn the reality of such statistics and the poor behind-the-wheel behavior behind them.

Moreover, the class aims to teach about specific laws surrounding young drivers, as well as the society surrounding teens, parents and their relation to driving.

On March 25, he class will take place at the Clear Lake Area CHP office at 5700 Live Oak Drive in Kelseyville. The report claims the class will start at 1 p.m. and take approximately two hours. The classroom has limited space, so locals are encouraged to set up a reservation.
