Each year at this time, a very creative, energetic, civic minded bunch of ladies who call themselves the Lakeport Women’s Civic Club, start getting busy on their biggest fundraiser of the year. They go knocking on doors and soliciting gifts, prizes and wine from local businesses who give so generously so that they might hold auctions and sell raffle tickets to provide money for local causes.
This year the LWCC will offer $1,000 scholarships for two young people who wish to attend a vocational school.
LWCC was also able to provide funding for the Sexual Assault Response Team at Sutter Lakeside Hospital so that they might purchase a very sophisticated camera that would provide images that are much more effective in a court room.
Over the years LWCC has provided tens of thousands of dollars to projects like Westside Park, Victim Witness Program, Friends of the Library, Lake County Veterans Honor Guard and most recently the Rocky/Jerusalem/Valley Fire Relief Fund.
This is the 24th annual Mad Hatter Fashion Show and Luncheon and it will be held at Twin Pine Casino in Middletown. Their first luncheon took place at the Lakeport Senior Center and has since graced the likes of The Thompson House, Konocti Harbor Inn, Lodge at Blue Lakes and Rancho de la Fuente just to name a few.
Each year they choose a different theme and dress accordingly. This year the theme is Rhinestone Cowgirl and the ladies are polishing their dance moves and dusting off their cowgirl hats for the occasion.
Round up a bunch of your girlfriends and join the on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be dancing for the first hour followed by lunch and a fashion show featuring OAK Boutique in downtown Kelseyville.
Tickets are just $30 and can be purchased by calling Cheryl at 707-533-9375.
