UKIAH >> Sam Long’s 93 was the low round of the day and helped lead Clear Lake’s undefeated golf team to wins over Willits and Fort Bragg on Thursday in a Coastal Mountain Conference North match at Ukiah Municipal Golf Course.
Clear Lake finished with 447 strokes (the combined total of the team’s low four scorers) to Willits’ 511 and Fort Bragg’s 519. The Cardinals are now 6-0 through their first three North matches.
While the day’s action was played under threatening skies, Clear Lake coach Ted Mattila said the match timing was perfect.
“The rain started once we got off the course,” Mattila said.
Even so, playing conditions weren’t ideal.
“There was a little (standing) water on the front nine and a lot of it on the back nine,” Mattila said. “It was tough to play in.”
Along with Long’s round, Clear Lake counted the scores of Nolan Williams (113), Dylan McGuire (115) and Brenden Allen (126) toward its team total.
Izack Walker of Fort Bragg fired a 107, the next lowest round after Long’s 93.
The same three teams return to Ukiah next Thursday for another North match.
