A powerful statement

Galilee Lutheran Church

Lay leader Debra Blum

This Sunday at 10 a.m., we continue our journey of preparation for Holy Week and Easter Sunday with the story of the blind man healed by Jesus. This is a passage with several lessons relevant to us today. “What did his parents do that caused him to be born blind?”

Don’t we often assume that people bring troubles upon themselves? That any afflicted person did something wrong sometime in the past? That bad things don’t happen to good people? That the homeless somehow deserve their homelessness? That if people just worked a little harder, they would be able to afford health insurance? That abused women invite abuse upon themselves? That all these conditions are not our concern?

And for those of us who get into theological arguments, what better example of evangelism than in the testimony of the formerly blind man? Hauled before the priests and questioned about Jesus, he simply said, “I don’t know about all your arguments. All I know is, I once was blind, but now I can see. And Jesus did it.” What a powerful statement!

Music Sunday will be on guitars and mandolin, and Holy Communion will be celebrated. Galilee invites everyone to join us! The church is located at 8860 Soda Bay Road, just up the road from Konocti Harbor Inn.
