LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Theatre Company is thrilled to be hosting open auditions for its next musical, Mel Brooks’ “The Producers.” Auditions will be held April 10 and 13 at 6 p.m. at the Lake County Arts Council, 325 N. Main Street in Lakeport.
If you are interested in a lead or a solo, please come prepared with a song from the show to sing. Suggested songs (including sheet music) will be posted on our website at www.lakecountytheatrecompany.org. For those interested in being part of the chorus, please come prepared to learn a song and dance number.
Performances of The Producers will take place at the Soper-Reese Theatre Sept. 29-Oct. 15.
This award-winning play, made into a movie starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, tells the story of Max Bialystock, a shady Broadway producer, and Leo Bloom, his by-the-book accountant. The pair devise a scheme to raise a lot of money (with the help of some wealthy old ladies) to put on the world’s worst musical: “Springtime for Hitler.” Their plan to produce a flop and pocket the excess money blows up when the play unexpectedly becomes a hit.
Other characters include Franz Liebkind, the writer of the play, Roger Debris, the play’s flamboyant director, Carmen Ghia, his equally flamboyant assistant, and Ulla, Max and Leo’s very blonde, and very Swedish, assistant.
LCTC seeks actors, singers, and dancers ages 16 and up for this hilariously off-color musical.
