
LAKEPORT >> Mountain Vista Middle School of Kelseyville won the Lake County Junior High Athletic League Wrestling Championships on Thursday at Terrace Middle School in Lakeport.
The host Vikings didn’t take home the team title but did win 11 medals, three for first place.
Weight division winners were Liam Wayment (177 pounds) and Blake Moak (heavyweight), both with 2-0 records that included two pins, and Ashley Pyorre (95 pounds) with a 2-0 record and one pin.
Terrace wrestlers taking home second-place medals were Samuel Vanoven (98 pounds) and Axel Alvarez (135 pounds), both with 2-1 records and two pins apiece; Liam Davis (110 pounds), Jonathan Werner (173 pounds) and Raymond Gonzales-Shoaf (heavyweight), all 1-1 with one pin each; and Kiley Bartell (139 pounds).
Third-place medal winners were Nathan Pyorre (82 pounds) and Landon Bethel (124 pounds).
“It’s a great group of kids, everyone made improvements in just one month of this short season,” Terrace Middle School head coach Steve Fisher said.
Upper Lake Middle School’s wrestlers also had a good day on the mat. Cody Banks not only won a weight class title but earned a most valuable player award. Second-place medals went to Noah De Los Santos, Bradley Sneathen, Isabel Sanchez and Heaven Loans-Arrow. Earning third-place medals were Dena Loans-Arrow, Donavan Fernandez and Jordyn Juarez.
